You know how you want something really bad so you try really hard to get it and once you do you're not quite satisfied with it. So, you find something else you want and try for that only to achieve it and still not be fulfilled. It's like trying to fill a void but not quite sure what that void is.
That's how I've felt many times about where we've lived. We moved to Portland over 9 years ago, fell in love with the NW. The beach, the tide pools, the abundance of green, the ocean, the rain (want me to keep going?). And then we moved. We have tried to get back to the NW ever since we left, but now that we are here, I'm not completely satisfied. This has really got me thinking about my wants and whats really important.
I LOVE my family................check
I LOVE the Gospel...............check
What I've come to realized is that it doesn't matter where I live that's going to make me fulfilled; it's how I build relationships and hold onto them. Whether it be in the desert, in the humidity, or in the rain it's still the same. I know what you're saying.........."we've been taught this forever, and you're just now figuring this out?" I blame 'mom brain' for that one (hehehe)! I think this void I've been feeling was a deep desire to know my Heavenly Father and our Savior better. To have a relationship like the one I have with my kids or with Mike.
TRUST
LOVE
COMPANIONSHIP
UNDERSTANDING
EMPATHY
This realization has helped me reach out to others with no stings attached, then relationships are built. It's exciting to see this work. To LOVE others with no expectations. It has really changed my heart! “If thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: and the Lord shall guide thee continually.”
And what better place to figure this out than in the NW!!

A mother by any other name would be as sweet?
